New York on Scarborough raid 1914

Scarborough Pictorial 23rd December 1914 - what the New York papers had to say about the German raid on Scarborough

The "New York Tribune" heads an article, "Crime Against Civilisation," and declares: "Germany has set a vicious and dangerous precedent, just as in disregarding important provisions of the code for war on land in Belgium." In wantonly killing non combatants, women and children among them, in undefended British coast towns, Germany cannot escape responsibility for having taken the first step from recognised practice, in having barbarities which the world had hoped to see eliminated from the practice of war.

UTTERLY USELESS MASSACRE

The "New York Times" says the ruthless bombardment of unfortified towns and the utterly useless massacre of non combatants have not only shocked the people of other nations, but have aroused a world.
